Todd Wilkinson is a graduate of California State University in Sacramento. He began working at Colfax High School as a music teacher and band director. In 1992 he founded the Colfax High School Chamber Choir, and he has continued to dedicate his time and effort toward the choir for over 20 years. He also worked as director for the CMEA junior high school choir. He takes pride in instructing young musicians in the art of singing, both as individuals and as a part of our larger choir.
Below are only a few of the numerous awards he has received in his time as a teacher and Director:
Mr. Wilkinson has great respect for his students, and he is looking forward to continuing to instruct them in the future.
The Colfax High School Chamber Choir began as a small collection of 12 students who informally gathered 2 days a week to practice and learn to sing together. That was over 20 years ago! This original group did not join in competitions and rarely performed. Since then, the choir has grown tremendously in both talent and number, from 12 to 24 and eventually 35 students. Through the combined efforts of our choir Director Todd Wilkinson and the passionate and determined students that make up our choir, we have become a group that has exceeded any goal or expectation ever imagined.
The Colfax High School Chamber Choir works and performs throughout the year. Concerts are held in the fall, winter and spring to showcase the musical talents of the choir, along with the school band and individual performers. In these concerts, the Chamber Choir also performs alongside the school’s concert choir, the choir meant for those who are first being introduced to singing and choral music. The Chamber Choir learns a collection of traditional and contemporary choral pieces to perform for each concert. In addition to this, we learn advanced pieces of music in order to compete in the Worldstrides Heritage Music Festival, a nationally based competition for choirs and bands. In these competitions, choirs are ranked on a national scale by a panel of three experienced judges. These events are held in various locations around the country. Our choir has traveled to places such as San Diego, San Francisco, New York, Hawai’i, Washington D.C, and most recently Anaheim in order to participate at this grand level.
The members of our choir hold very high expectations for themselves due to our past successes. In these Worldstrides Heritage events, the Colfax High School Chamber Choir has received 15 consecutive Gold awards, 3 awards for Most Outstanding Choir, and 4 Adjudicator Awards, the highest possible accolade that can be awarded in the competition. In the future we expect to continue our pattern of excellence and success.
